We're excited to help you bring your idea to life. Whether you're creating a club based on an academic interest, cultural identity, service, recreation, advocacy, or something entirely new, the Office of Student Involvement is here to guide you through the process.
Below you'll find the steps to become a registered student organization, including information about requirements, as well as some links to additional resources.
Please note: This process is also required for organizations that were previously deactivated due to inactivity or failure to complete annual registration.
Think about the type of organization you want to create, its purpose, and the impact you'd like it to have on the VCU community. Begin outlining your goals, envisioning how your organization will operate, and connecting with other students who are excited to help bring your vision to life.
As you recruit members and build interest, be transparent that your organization is in the process of becoming a Registered Student Organization (RSO)
Your next step is to attend a required New Student Organization Orientation. During this session, you'll learn about the registration process, expectations and responsibilities of student organizations, available campus resources, and tips for building a successful organization. It's also a great opportunity to ask questions and connect with Student Involvement staff.
See below for upcoming orientation dates, times, and locations

Once you have all your basic requirements met and are ready, submit the New Student Organization. Application access is provided to students who have attended the required New Student Organization Orientation.
NEW! All new student organizations will be required to attend a student organization leader training on October 16th (Reading Day). Each prospective new org must send at least one officer to attend. This 3 hour mini conference will provide you with a strong leadership and organizational foundation for being a successful member of the VCU student org community. More details will be provided at orientation sessions.
Our staff will review your applications as they are submitted. We'll reach out if we have any questions or need additional information. Once your application is approved and your attendance at both the orientation and student org leadership training has been confirmed, you'll receive notification that your organization has been approved and your RamsConnect group page has been created.
As a follow up to approval you'll bring your organization to life in RamsConnect. Log in to:
You'll be provided with some additional resources that will get you started in accessing the resources available to student orgs including: reserving space on campus, utilizing resources in The Underground, applying for SGA or GSA funding, and more.
