About Us

Who are we?

AMA's purpose is to provide members the resources to develop their marketing and business skills outside of the classroom through workshops, guest speakers, and networking events.

FAQ's

  • How can I become a member?

Becoming a member of AMA @ VCU is simple! There are just two requirements:

    1. Pay Dues

    2. Show up!

There is also two types of members: new members, and active members. Once you begin interacting with AMA, you are classified as a new member. Once you begin to accumulate points and reach 200, you become an active member! More information can be found under the Member Resources tab, where the Membership Point System document is found.

Both statuses require that you pay dues and continue showing up. Reach out if you're concerned that you cannot meet these requirements.

  • What makes AMA different?

We get it, there's a lot of professional organizations out there. But AMA has something different! Unlike the others, we have the advantage of being one of hundreds of collegiate chapters connected to the National AMA organization, filled with thousands of students like yourselves.

We're also one of the few lucky enough to have close proximity to our local National chapter, AMA Richmond. We reap this benefit by inviting speakers from their organization, connecting students with their professionals, and attending their events as students.

  • What does AMA offer?

AMA VCU offers students the ability to build on their professional and marketing skills through workshops and special projects. Additionally, with our connection to AMA Richmond, students can get to know local professionals on a deeper level, networking in a way they never have before. AMA VCU also fosters an incredible community of students who are passionate about marketing, creativity, and working towards their futures.

Our events include guest speakers, workshops, corporate tours, and social events.

  • How do I pay dues?

Students can pay dues by contacting our Dir. of Finance, Jimmy Mai. This can be done by sending him a direct message via GroupMe, speaking with him in-person, or sending him an email (maijv@vcu.edu). We accept many different payment methods and can work with students who demonstrate financial need.

    Dues: $55 per year.

$30 goes to the National AMA organization, and the $25 is VCU chapter dues. Your dues go toward purchasing catering, supplies, and other materials for our events.

    Deadline: October 1st

Joining after October 1st? That's okay! Our deadline is rolling, all you need to do to gain access to events is pay your dues as soon as possible!

  • Where can I find more information?

All information for members and interested students can be found on our website, but if you have any further questions, feel free to send us an email (amavcuchapter@gmail.com) or message any Executive Board member directly. The Member Resources tab has several links to additional information.

  • Where do I sign up for events?

Registering for events is REQUIRED. You can do this on our Ramsconnect page, where all events are listed per semester. However, if you have not paid dues, you will not be able to register and will instead have to reach out to us to join a waitlist. This ensures that members who have paid can retain their priority registration.

  • Who can I talk to about AMA?

Any of our Executive Board members would be happy to share more information! Feel free to email us at amavcuchapter@gmail.com

Our faculty advisor, Katie Gilstrap, is also a great resource to get connected with us!

  • What if I'm not ready to join?

That's okay, we get it! Don't be intimidated, we're students just like you. That's why we started Coffee Chats, an open opportunity with no-strings-attached to get to know our organization and its members.

These happen on a bi-weekly basis, so keep an eye out on our Ramsconnect Events page to see when and where the next one is.
