 Hot Topic

NOW is the time to secure your housing for the Fall 2024 semester.  If you are trying to live on campus the housing lottery is open so be sure to submit your application for the upcoming semester.  If you are looking for off-campus housing for Fall, please connect with the VCU Office Campus Housing Office online.  you can also reach them by phone at 804 628-3946

Veteran advance registration for Fall 2024 will be 8AM on Wednesday March 27th.  Eligible Veterans should make an appointment to meet with their academic advisor before the 27th and make sure ahead of time that they do not have any registration holds on their accounts that might prohibit registration.

The SVA has several scholarship opportunities. You can check them out here.

The Warrior Scholar Project is
still recruiting for their Summer Bootcamps. If you are intersted in knowing more about the program please email Pam Newton

The MSS and SVA will host a graduation ceremony for our Veteran and Active Duty Students on May 1st at the Virginia War Memorial. Stay tuned for details.

School Certifying Official Updates

For Chapter 33 post 9/11 Gi Bill students

The VA will reach out each month to verify enrollment to keep sending monthly BAH payments. If you receive a text from the VA asking to confirm your enrollment, please be sure to reply with "Y" if you are still in classes. If you mark "N"... the VA will stop sending your monthly cost of living payments until your enrollment status can be verified.
If you have questions about the payment status for GI Bill benefits, please contact the VA at 888-GIBILL-1 (888-442-4551) for assistance. You can also visit us in person at 1015 Floyd Avenue, Room 3122 for further assistance.

Curious on the status of your Spring benefits?

Most all of the completed Spring 2024 Federal benefit requests have been sent to the VA.  If you have submitted your RFC and have not received any payments yet, you can check your benefit status by logging back into the RFC site at go.vcu.edu/militarystudents.  It can take the VA 2-4 weeks to process a submitted certification.  If you have not yet submitted your RFC for Spring, it is not too late to submit for the term..
State benefit, VMSDEP students can confirm that their VMSDEP has been authorized for the Spring by logging back into their VMSDEP portal at https://vmsdep.dvs.virginia.gov/.

Are you planning on taking Summer courses?

As summer is a "nontraditional" semester with courses of various lengths and start/stop dates, the full time/part time determination is a different calculation.  If you are using VA benefits for Summer, submit your online RFC as you normally would, but also check with our office so we can help you determine your full time or part time status.  If you are a VMSDEP student and using your benefit for Summer, please be aware that Summer uses a full semesters worth of eligibility... so if you are only taking one Summer course, you might not be getting a good value for this very valuable benefit.  If you have questions, please visit us in Harris Hall, or call 804.828.6533
