School Certifying Official Updates

On behalf of the MSS Office we want to congratulate you on (almost) finishing the term and are sending good mojo for your end of semester exams.  As this is our last opportunity to send out reminders regarding your benefits...

If you are using Federal benefits such as Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill or Chapter 35 DEA benefits for Summer or Fall, please be sure to submit your online "RFC" (request for certification) to authorize your benefit for the term(s) should you wish to use them for the semester.  You can access the RFC site here:  go.vcu.edu/militarystudents

Please be sure to get your completed RFC into our office as soon as possible to avoid payment delays at the start of Summer/Fall.

If you are using State VMSDEP benefits you can authorize the benefit for Summer through the VMSDEP portal now.  If you are planning on using the VMSDEP for Fall 2025, the VMSDEP portal will start allowing Fall requests after July 1st.

For Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill or Chapter 1606 benefits, please continue to verify your enrollment each month if you are texted by the VA.  This is to keep your monthly payments coming.  If you do not receive a enrollment confirmation via text, you can affirm your enrollment by phone at 888.442.4551.  Please note, Chapter 35 students will be required to reaffirm their enrollment monthly in the coming Fall semester

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding your benefits or how we can help.

Employment, Internship, and Volunteer Opportunities

Heavy Equipment Operator Teacher

Goochland County Public Schools (GCPS) is one of only two school divisions in Virginia offering Utility/Heavy Construction courses that prepare students for careers as construction equipment operators. The instructor will teach essential industry skills including OSHA standards, job site safety, equipment inspections, site grading, excavation, concrete structures, pipe laying, and road construction. In the second-year course, students will expand their knowledge through soil studies, blueprint and topographic map interpretation, and hands-on operation of bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, and skid steers. Additionally, the instructor will build relationships with industry partners, promote work-based learning opportunities, and support students in securing apprenticeships during their senior year. This role provides a unique opportunity to prepare students for high-demand careers in the construction industry. The instructor is expected to expose students to the SKILLs USA program and promote the leadership and competition opportunities provided by this organization.

Please contact Bruce Watson-Director if you are intersted in applying.
